Cannabis Preparation

• There are two types of cannabis plants, male and female, the latter plant contains the highest concentrations of more than 60 cannabinoids that are unique to the plant.
• Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (19-THC) is the cannabinoid that is primarily responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis.
• The most potent forms of cannabis come from the flowering top of the plants or from the dried black-brown resinous exudate from the leaves, which are referred to as hashish or hash The cannabis plant is often cut, dried, crushed, and rolled into cigarettes (sometimes known as “joints”) before being smoked.
• Marijuana is also known as marijuana grass, weed tea, and Mary Jane. Hemp, charas, bhang, ganja, dagga, and sinsemilla are other names for cannabis varieties of varied strengths.
• Improved agricultural techniques employed in growth have enhanced the strength of marijuana products, allowing plants to contain up to 15 or 20% THC.

Types of Cannabis

Cannabis has different subspecies based on the difference in cannabinoid concentration.

• Cannabis Indica

Cannabis indica is well known for its sedating properties. Different concentrations of cannabinoids like THC and CBD, as well as terpenes, give Indica strains distinct effects.

 Effects: Indica produces a strong “body” high that is known as “couch lock.” Many users report feeling physically heavy, unable to move, and profoundly calm after taking a high Indica strain. Indicas also tend to increase hunger.

• Cannabis Sativa

Cannabis sativa is prized for its uplifting qualities, which make it distinct from cannabis Indica. Different quantities of cannabinoids and terpenes dictate the effects of all Sativa strains, making some tremendously stimulating and others mildly invigorating.

Effects: Sativa is known for its “head” high, which is mostly felt in the brain. As a result, Sativa strains are slightly more hallucinogenic than Indica strains.

• Cannabis Ruderalis

Cannabis ruderalis, a lesser-known marijuana species, used to grow wild in the severe temperatures of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Asia.

Effects: THC levels in Cannabis ruderalis are naturally low. This means it has almost no psychoactive properties. However, because it is strong in CBD, it may be beneficial to those who use marijuana for medical reasons. Because cannabis ruderalis contains CBD, it produces a non-intoxicating soothing, clear-headed high.

• Hybrid

Cannabis plants that are hybrids are a mix of Indica and Sativa strains. Usually, they are indica- or Sativa-dominant hybrids, but they can also be an equal mix of both types of cannabis.

Effects: Hybrid cannabis has a diverse range of effects. Because hybrid strains include both sativas and indicas, the outcome will be determined by which strains were selected for breeding. Some hybrid strains have exceptionally high THC content, while others have lower THC content and higher CBD content.

How is it Taken?

• Marijuana and hashish are commonly smoked, but they can also be used orally, in tea, or food.
• Cannabinoids in food are fat-soluble.
• THC generates a modest high when taken orally in small amounts (5–10 milligrams); greater dosages (30–70 milligrams) produce strong and longer-lasting effects similar to hallucinogenic substances.
• Effects of cannabis when ingested orally can appear in 2hrs and last for 8hrs.
• When smoked, THC is readily absorbed by the lungs’ abundant blood supply, hence effects appear in a few minutes and for 2-3 hours. Blood from the lungs rushes to the heart and then to the brain, causing a rapid rise in blood pressure.
